Tom Walker: What a Time to Be Alive

BRIT Award winner Tom Walker kick starts March 2019 with an impressive debut album that has been worth the wait.

The Scottish singer/songwriter has been a breakthrough artist bubbling under the surface of stardom for many years now. His top 10 song ‘Leave A Light On’ is what has got everyone talking, after it has featured on countless TV programmes here in the UK and across the globe.

But now Tom Walker is ready to show the world he is not just a one-hit wonder but a full-fledged musical powerhouse.

Born in Glasgow and raised in Kilsyth, Lanarkshire, for the first three-and-a-half years of his life before job opportunities for both parents took the family to Chelford in Cheshire.

Back in 2017 Tom said: “I feel I’m from Manchester because I grew up there but all my family, including my parents, are Scottish.

“When I speak to them, I definitely speak with more of a Scottish accent.”

Tom’s debut album ‘What a Time to Be Alive’ is an honest album, filled with heart and soul. It’s an album which flits from the cinematic style of ‘Fade Away’ to EDM on ‘Now You’re Gone’, with the assistance of Swedish pop-star Zara Larsson.

Latest single ‘Just You & I’ shows Walker’s romantic side. With lyrics such as “I can tell you anything, You won’t judge, You’re just listening, yeah, ‘Cause you’re the best thing that ever happened to me” it is hard not to emphasis, feel warm inside and just see Tom as a lovely guy.

“an honest album, filled with heart and soul”

With producers on board such as Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys), Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran) and Mike Spencer (Years & Years) – this album was always going to have that classic British feel.

But in the same vane you do sometimes feel like this album could sit within Ed Sheeran’s discography. Tracks such as ‘How Can You Sleep at Night?’ and ‘Dominoes’ could be perfect additions to ‘plus’ or ‘divide’, therefore you do feel like you have already heard these songs before time and time again.

As the 2019 BRITs British Breakthrough artist I would expect some flair of originality and individualism.

Following on from previous sold out headline tours in the UK, Europe and the US, Tom has announced his ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ Tour which kicks off from April 2019 with dates already selling out.

A solid debut album with oomph, gruff and a spark that this is only just the start for Mr Walker.
