Importance of Being Earnest : KDS

Oscar Wilde

Willkommen! Bienvenue! And welcome to Keele Drama Society’s first play, Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest”. A modern interpretation of a 19th Century play that focuses on the trivial lives of the trivial upper classes, KDS presents Wilde’s original intentions with a focus on modern culture. Where Wilde saw the dreadful French Drama or awful British Opera, we now see Justin Beiber and Jersey Shore. Taking the Victorian play out of its normal historical sphere, we have a much more saucy and sexy production that you shouldn’t miss. KDS’s first play shows off the talent found in the new Keele students as well as including the best of those who have acted before. It will be a great show and a shame if anyone missed it!

KDS is not just a society for actors, we’re here for anyone who enjoys the theatre or wishes to help out with plays in any way. We’re organising trips to local theatres so we can join in with workshops and seeing their plays. We have a great social calendar and are open to anyone coming along.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at our next social, at our next play trip or, indeed, in the audience for our next play, “The Importance of Being Earnest”!

Matthew Maddock
